1. Prepare your project wellYou will find good advice on the website of the French Swimming Pool Professionals Federation.www.propiscines.fr 2. Choose the right pool equipment
M. Cazzaniaga "Choose the pump carefully because that's the part that works the most!"
M. Leclerc "Your choice of pump is not only linked to the size of your pool..."
M. Boaghio "Choose suitable equipment that is more powerful than what is recommended; do not pick the cheapest."
M. Beau "For a traditional pool, determine the construction technique (coating, finish) and the associated maintenance. It the pool is well designed, you save a great deal of time."
M. Chappaz "I chose to only use Hayward products because the equipment is of very high quality and almost all is manufactured in Europe."
M. Fernandez "My skimmer broke (I had bought a cheap one) and we had to break everything up - it cost me a fortune!"
M. Charvet "When I chose the equipment, I wanted to be sure I would pick something for which I could always find spare parts because changing a whole pump for 2 accessories that you can't find...no thanks! Buying equipment in a range that is going to last is a good idea."
Expert To choose the right pool equipment, you need to consider the volume of the pool and also its position (trees, plants, sunshine, etc.) If your pool is near trees, you need a filtration system that will remove leaves and pollen. And so a large debris area will be required.
Always choose the pump size according to the filter because you should never forget that it's the filter that captures impurities. If the pump is too powerful, filtering will be low quality. Also consider the distance between the pump and the pool and use the right size of piping: above 15m3/hr or if the pool is very far from the pool shed, you need to install 63mm pipes. Don't neglect the white goods once they've been installed. It is difficult to change them without breaking up the pool. A few euros saved during construction will then become pointless. ![]()
3. Illuminate your pool
Mme Castaldi "There's never enough light; you must carefully size them at the beginning. Don't listen to people who say that one spotlight is enough; you'll need at least 2 spotlights."
Mme Bano "The lighting gives the area a lovely look."
Expert When you think about pool lights, above all you think about using the pool at night. What could be nicer than swimming on a hot summer's night ?
But you have to remember that powerful lighting is very useful is something or someone falls in to the pool at night: good lighting is safer. With LED lighting, you can also have colours and add to the aesthetics of your outdoor area. This new technology uses less electricity and has a much longer lifetime than more traditional lighting. ![]()
4. Take care in filtration
Mme Cianfarani "The filtration system must be good quality; we don't look after it, the pool looks after it all by itself with its little timer system."
M. Richemond "You must choose the filtration carefully. If the water is not good, the pool doesn't look nice!"
M. Bertrand "Adapt the filter to the pump. The electrolysis system is more comfortable even if it is a little more expensive."
M. Beau "Explore new possibilities: for example, the cartridge filter."
M. Chappaz "Pick a good filter because the water quality depends on the filtration system and it's essential that you have crystal clear water."
M. Beau "Filtration system performance: check the number of inlets. For the filtration capacity, you need something powerful because for filtration it is difficult to change once everything is installed."
M. Perrin "You concentrate too much on the pump and that's exactly what you should not do! What you should be focused on is the right filter!"
Expert The water quality depends on the chosen filtration technology: sand filter, cartridge filter, diatomite filter. The finer the filter, the more particles you will collect and the more beautiful your pool will be.
And you will need less chemicals: you don't need a flocculent with cartridge or diatomite filters. An oversize filter means you can extend the gap between cleaning cycles: don't skimp on the power or size. Adapt the power of the pump to the filte r: if the water passes too quickly through a filter, the filtration is bad. Regularly check the dirt in the filter and clean whenever necessary: a dirty filter slows the water flow and therefore the pool filtering. ![]()
5. Enjoy your pool
Mme Cianfarani "An automatic cleaner is essential because then there is no need to clean the pool yourself. I can relax instead."
M. Roche "Feel free to choose a heat pump that is better than the one you have been advised to buy."
M. Mo "We have an aboveground pool and we were badly advised about our automatic cleaner. We had to go to a website in the end and get our own information before we made our choice."
M. Bouranche "Enjoy your pool from April to October with a heat pump. It really is very good."
M. Cazzaniaga "Use Hayward products! I'm really, really happy ! I've never had any problems! They work all by themselves!"
M. Bataille "I regret that I didn't get electrolysis but I bought an amazing cleaner from Hayward and now I don't ever have to clean the pool! My swimming pool has never seen a brush!"
M. Boaghio "Maintenance is essential: pump, salt... If you maintain your pool you'll have no worries!"
Expert Equipment such as heat pumps, electrolysers or automatic cleaners mean you can enjoy your pool without constraints. They are autonomous but this equipment requires a minimum of maintenance to operate over the long-term.
Wintering equipment means it is operational over several seasons. Feel free to ask a professional for advice : there is nothing more frustrating than a device that is not adapted to your pool. ![]()
6. Remember the surrounding area
M. Cazzaniaga "Leave room for future additions and investments for your pool."
M. Richemond "Cover your pool in winter and even in summer when you are mowing the grass - it will protect your pool!"
M. Boaghio "Installing your technical shed: build a proper shed to house all your equipment."
Mme Schneider «You need to consider the security aspect because there are many different offers : an alarm, fences, lasers...and having a secure pool is now a legal requirement, so it's good to consider it from the very start.»
Expert From the very beginning, think of the complete project and also any changes that may come later.
For example, even if you do not immediately invest in a heat pump, you should leave room for one and the piping so it is easy to connect later. Don't forget safety and security: security for your pool has been a legal requirement since 1st January 2004. ![]()
